1.05 -- 3D Model of Chosen Staircases

[A]

Above is the chosen staircase design for Ono, which will connect the showroom floor with the above level.  Columns that hold the landing up will be shown in a later incorporation of the stair with the room.  Although there is a slight change in shape from the original sketch to the developed model, the basic shape is still evident in the draft.  The steps were intended to be shallow and easy to walk on to reduce chances of accidents and hence prevent injuries from occurring, while the minor irregularity of the step heights and shape mirror the large variety of works created by Ono.  When viewed from above (plan to be shown later), one can see the distinct shape of a fish, the primal ingredient of the sushi maker.  This evokes a sense of connection between the purpose of the room, as well as the products that are created in this space.

Furthermore, the selected materials for the stairs and landing is primarily reinforced steel and wood with a lacquered finish.  This is to compliment the boards on which Ono will present his creations.

The second set of staircases were inspired by the circular shapes of the original sketch.  Designed for Stradivari, these steps link the basement to the showroom via a ~200 degree circle.  This is evident when viewing the plan as shown in the first figure.  Furthermore, the slight twist mirrors the products made underground, and has a lasting effect on the people who embrace these stairs frequently.  While the steps are not yet attached, a method is currently being devised.  The most idea material would be concrete or an alternate material with a high density.  This is to compliment the material of the basement which is required to be of such nature to preserve the acoustics of the violins made by Stradivari.
